Notes: Although the library belongs to ALB, they do not recognize ALB cards. Any student from another institution would be required to obtain a METRO card in order to obtain access to their library, regardless of whether they attend an ALB institution. As per usual METRO card limitations, outside students would not be able to borrow materials from SUNY downstate. Students may request SUNY Downstate materials using ILL.

Open Access. The Academic Libraries of Brooklyn (ALB) is a consortium of eight academic libraries in Brooklyn. ALB initiated a unique "Open Access" policy in 1975. This cooperative program allows students, faculty and staff of any ALB member library to use the resources of the other member libraries.

Privileges. Pratt students have reading and borrowing privileges at each of the other seven member libraries. Pratt students may only borrow up to 2 books at a given time from each of the ALB member Libraries. Each library's rules apply to Pratt students as ALB users.

Note: The reading and borrowing privileges of the other eight libraries, do not apply to SUNY Downstate. Downstate will accept Metro cards issued following the agreed upon procedure.

Procedures. You need a current Pratt ID and an ALB card to gain access to ALB member libraries. To obtain a card, consult a librarian at the Information/Reference Desk. It would be advisable to confirm library hours and days of service before making a trip. Borrowed material is to be returned either in person or by mail to the lending library. If mailed, allow adequate time for the material to reach the lending library before the item is due.

Responsibilities. Readers are responsible for treating library materials with care, and borrowers need to return books on time. The lending library's overdue charges apply. Notices for overdue books will be sent directly to the borrower. Notices of serious delinquency will be sent to the borrower's college for appropriate action. Open access privileges may be withdrawn from any user who abuses the system.

Constitution and By-Laws. Read the Offical Constitution and By-Laws of the Academic Libraries of Brooklyn, endorsed by the nine charter members.
