New York Public Library Databases

Pratt Institute Libraries subscribe to a select number of databases. The New York Public Library (NYPL) and the Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) subscribe to a wide range of academic and non-academic databases.

NYPL and BPL databases are freely available to New York State residents and students who have obtained a Library Card. Some of these databases are available remotely. BPL, especially, provides remote access to many of its academic databases. To access other databases at NYPL or BPL, you must go to your local branch (or to the NYPL Research Libraries to access certain academic databases).

To access the databases of the New York and Brooklyn Public Libraries:

  • Go to any library branch with proof of address or study in New York State, and obtain a Library Card.

  • Refer to the barcode number on the back of your card when entering a given database. This is your password.
