Databases at the Pratt Libraries
The Library subscribes to a number of online databases that index the table of contents of journals, magazines and newspapers. In some cases these databases provide online access to full-text articles. Databases are essential research tools that provide the means to access individual articles within journals, magazines and newspapers. It is important to remember, however, that not all of the journals, magazines and newspapers indexed in the databases are found in our collection.

Print Journals at the Pratt Libraries
Pratt Institute Libraries subscribe to more than 700 magazines, journals, and newspapers, ranging from peer-reviewed academic journals to emerging magazines and DIY (do it yourself) ‘zines. The collection supports Pratt Institute's diverse curricula, and is especially strong in the areas of fine arts, architecture, design, and fashion. Other subjects include current affairs, literature, science, music, education, cultural studies and more. The collection includes regional, national and international materials, as well as a number of non-English language titles.
Locating Periodicals
Journals, magazines and newspapers are searchable in the online catalog, PrattCat.
- Enter the title of the journal, magazine or newspaper that you would like to locate and select 'go'.
- From the results page, click on the title of the periodical you are trying to locate to view the location and holdings information.
Microforms
Pratt Institute Library's microform collection includes the New York Times on microfilm from 1851 to the present year. To locate articles on a particular subject, by a particular author or date, consult the New York Times Indexes (R 071 N56) located on the 1st floor (recent years) and 3rd floor (older years). Additional titles available on microform include the Chronicle of Higher Education, Architectural Record and Utne Reader, and others. Please ask a librarian at the 1st floor Reference Desk for assistance locating microforms and using the microform machine.
