Who Can Use ILL Services?
This service is available to current faculty, staff and students at Pratt Institute.
How do I request ILL Material?
ILL material may be requested through the reference desk at the Pratt Library on either campus. Please submit the following ILL Request Form.
Requests can also be placed electronically through the database WORLDCAT. Requests made using the electronic form will automatically be sent to the Brooklyn campus. To have ILL material sent to the Manhattan campus library, contact Jean Hines at 212-647-7547 or jhines@pratt.edu.
When will my request be processed?
All items requested through interlibrary loan are processed as quickly as possible. Most requests are processed within twenty-four hours.
How long does it take for material to arrive?
Most items arrive within two weeks.
How will I be notified when the material I have requested has arrived?
Arrival notices will be sent to the email address specified by the requestor.
What types of materials can be borrowed?
Almost anything may be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan. Material that is available at the Pratt Libraries cannot be requested through ILL.
How many requests may I submit?
You may submit up to 20 requests (books or articles) per seven-day period.
How much does it cost?
At this time the Library pays all charges. Users should know that borrowing may cost the Library an average of $5.00 to $25.00 per item. To help us keep our costs down please examine your requests carefully.
Where do I pick up and return ILL materials?
ILL items requested at the Brooklyn campus or through WORLDCAT may be picked up at the reference desk at the Pratt Library in Brooklyn. To have material sent to the Pratt Library in Manhattan, please speak with Jean Hines (212-647-7547 or jhines@pratt.edu) before filing an Interlibrary Loan request. ILL books and other returnable items will be checked out to your library account and must be returned to the circulation desk for check-in when you are finished using the material. You are responsible for observing the conditions of the lending library which may restrict use of material to the library or prohibit photocopying. You will be held responsible for any damage or loss incurred while borrowed material is in your possession.
How long may I keep a book borrowed through ILL?
All loan periods are set by the lending libraries and are typically 2-4 weeks. Please note that some libraries restrict use of their books to "in-library use only."
How do I renew a book borrowed through ILL?
Renewals are granted at the discretion of the lending institution. Request a renewal by contacting Caley Cannon (Brooklyn campus) at 718-636-3704 or ccannon@pratt.edu. If your ILL request was filed through the Library at the Manhattan campus, contact Jean Hines at 212-647-7545 or jhines@pratt.edu.
