Academic Libraries of Brooklyn (ALB) The Pratt Libraries belong to a consortium of eight academic libraries in Brooklyn. Pratt students have access and borrowing privileges at all participating libraries. To use these libraries your library account must be in good standing, and you must obtain an ALB card at the Library Reference Desk. Take this card and your Pratt ID when you visit an ALB library. New York Metropolitan Library Council (METRO)
Pratt Libraries also belong to METRO, which counts 300 libraries in New York City and Westchester County among its members. Access to METRO libraries is allowed only if the specific item needed is not available in a public library. A Pratt librarian must call for permission to obtain a METRO Card for you. METRO referrals do not permit you to borrow materials.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) If a book or journal is not available at our library, you may request the material be sent to the Pratt Library for you to borrow in some cases, or consult in the library, through Interlibrary Loan. The vast majority of academic and public libraries participate in ILL, though they may not lend all material. Receipt of books and journal articles usually takes 2 to 3 weeks.
To request an Interlibrary Loan at the Brooklyn Campus, consult a librarian at the 1st floor Reference Desk. To request an Interlibrary Loan at the Manhattan Campus, contact Jean Hines at (212) 647-7547. Interlibrary Loan requests can also be placed electronically through the database WORLDCAT.
