Brooklyn Public Library

Anyone who lives, works, pays property taxes, or attends school in New York State is eligible for a free New York Public Library borrower's card. Your library card gives you access and borrowing priveleges to all branches of the Library and access to all of the Library's online databases, some of which are available from home.

Collection: Over 275,000 volumes in a closed stack, non-circulating collection of research material.

Collection: Comprehensive; includes all maps produced by U.S. government agencies, some 1,500 Bromley and Sanborn atlases of New York City from the 1850s to the present, and plans of American and foreign cities. Take pencil and tracing paper; no photocopying of rare material.


Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL)

Collection: 40,000 circulating books, 1.2 million reference books, more than 10,000 periodical titles, a vast collection of patents and numerous workstations for access to a world of electronic information.


New York Public Library for the Performing Arts

Collection: Circulating material includes over 150,000 audiotapes and CDs, videotapes, scripts, screenplays, and scores. Research material includes clipping files (reviews and visuals) on theater, film, music, and dance.


Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture

Collection: A national research library devoted to collecting, preserving and providing access to resources documenting the experiences of peoples of African descent throughout the world. Collections include art objects, audio and videotapes, books, manuscripts, motion picture films, newspapers, periodicals, photographs, prints, recorded music and sheet music

Collection: Almost 2 million books, 1,000 current magazine titles, 9,000 videos and 57,000 audio recordings; plus picture files, maps, and a special collection on Brooklyn.


Business Library

Collection: The 150,000 items include numerous business periodicals, as well as a comprehensive collection of loose-leaf services, reference and circulating books, in subjects such as advertising and real estate. Also company reports, foreign and domestic phone books, close to 3,000 directories and access to online databases.


Clinton Hill Branch

Collection: Neighborhood library for recreational reading --novels, best sellers, how-to books, travel guides, etc. Closest branch library to Pratt's Brooklyn campus.
