LRS 590

LRS 590, "Beyond Google," is a 1-credit, 5-week course on information literacy which will be offered in the Spring. The course is an all-Institute credit, and is designed to assist with major research projects in other classes and for theses.

"Beyond Google" examines many of the central issues in Information Literacy, the ability to critically retrieve, use, and evaluate information. Topics include an introduction to information literacy, best practices, research strategies, search engine limitations, online and print resources, and citation styles. Students will gain an understanding of copyright fair use, plagiarism, and information ethics. The culture and theory of contemporary information and related issues will be covered as well.
